
The Naskapi Nation is hiring a Human Resources Officer at the Naskapi Training Center. This is a one-year replacement position, and it is a chance to help build our HR department from the inside.
About the role
Our Nation is developing its Human Resources department, which provides HR services to departments across the Nation: recruitment, employee satisfaction, employee performance, and the administration of benefits, procedures, and policies.
We are looking for a team player with a positive attitude, someone who enjoys working with people across the organization, to help us build an HR department that meets the needs of our community and administration, and to help develop the procedures and policies that make for a sustainable, productive, and positive place to work.
Reporting to the HR Manager, the HR Officer helps promote a safe and healthy working environment for our employees, and fair access to employment at the Nation and its subsidiaries.

What you would do
- Maintain up-to-date files and records
- Maintain the job postings board and Facebook page
- Communicate with Naskapi Radio for announcements
- Assist with onboarding new employees
- Assist in evaluating training and capacity development needs
- Draft briefing documents and reports
- Draft and update job descriptions and postings as required
- Verify personnel information
- Assist in creating documents and communications materials
- Assist with presentations given to community members and staff
- Meet with departments to present new and existing policies, and other documents as required by the manager
- Assist payroll with duties as required
- Other relevant tasks as needed
What we are looking for
Education and certification
- High school diploma, CEGEP, or college diploma in a related field
- An HR certificate will be prioritized
Experience
- Human resources field experience or administration experience
- Experience working in an office or in the helping professions is an asset
- Any other relevant experience is an asset
Languages
- Fluency in English, spoken and written
- Knowledge of Naskapi is an asset
- Basic knowledge of spoken French
- Knowledge of French is an asset
Knowledge and abilities
- Strong working knowledge of personnel management, training, and administration
- Excellent English writing skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Non-judgemental and a good listener
- Attention to detail
- Able to collaborate closely
- Excellent time management skills, with a strong ability to prioritize and multitask
- Good computer skills, including Microsoft 365
- Willing and able to take part in training, both locally and outside the community
