You do not need experience in Human Resources to apply for this one. The Naskapi Nation is hiring a Human Resources Assistant for the Department of Public Works, and it is an entry-level position with training provided.

About the role

The Human Resources Assistant supports the HR department at DPW: administrative support, help with recruitment and onboarding, keeping HR policies and procedures up to date, supporting employee engagement, and helping with HR projects and communication. It is work that calls for discretion, since you would be handling employee information.

We are looking for a team player with a positive attitude. A people person who will support the HR department in meeting the needs of our employees and administration.

What you would do

  • Provide general support to the HR Officer
  • Maintain up-to-date employee files and records
  • Build, maintain, and update databases
  • Assist in preparing, writing, reviewing, editing, and compiling documents
  • Update job descriptions and job postings when required
  • Support new employee onboarding
  • Provide support with the logistics of administrative files
  • Help update and develop HR procedures and policies
  • Assist with developing HR communication materials
  • Respond to employee requests, or direct them to the right person
  • Act as the first point of contact for IT issues, and dispatch them when needed
  • Other tasks required by the HR Officer and HR Manager

What we are looking for

This is an entry-level position. It is ideal for anyone looking for professional experience and growth. Prior experience in Human Resources is not required, and training and support will be provided where you need it.

Education and certification

  • High school diploma
  • CEGEP or vocational diploma is an asset

Experience

  • Experience in administration, such as filing and drafting memos
  • Customer service, providing support and guidance to clientele
  • Experience working in an office environment is an asset
  • Experience working in HR is an asset

Languages

  • Knowledge of French is an asset

Knowledge and abilities

  • Excellent communication skills, with an emphasis on written expression
  • A high level of professionalism and a demonstrated ability to work with others
  • Self-starter, able to learn quickly
  • Excellent planning and time management skills
  • Strong ability to prioritize and multitask
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Good computer skills, including Microsoft 365
  • Willing and able to take part in training
