
About the role
The Class 1 Truck Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of transport trucks to haul materials such as gravel, equipment, snow, and debris to and from job sites. The role supports ongoing infrastructure, capital works, and community maintenance projects.

- Schedule: 40 hours per week, with possible overtime
- Salary: To be determined based on the Department of Public Works Salary Scale
What we are looking for
Education and certification
- Valid Class 1 driver’s license
- Valid CSST (ASP) Health and Safety competency card
- Heavy Equipment Operator certification is considered an asset
Experience
- At least one year operating a variety of heavy equipment in construction, road maintenance, or municipal settings
- Demonstrated ability to follow operational and safety procedures in live work environments
- Experience working outdoors in challenging weather and terrain
- Familiarity with pre-operational inspections, equipment logs, and reporting maintenance issues
Languages
- Proficient in English and Naskapi
- Knowledge of French is an asset
Knowledge and abilities
- Proficient in operating equipment and following safety protocols
- Familiar with scheduling systems and processes
- Strong understanding of safe hauling and material transport practices
- Highly responsible and self-motivated
- Capable of working independently
- Capable of securing loads and complying with weight regulations
What you would do
- Operate Class 1 transport trucks in a safe and efficient manner
- Haul materials to designated locations according to worksite directives
- Conduct and document pre-trip and post-trip inspections
- Ensure all cargo is properly loaded, secured, and compliant with weight limits
- Maintain delivery timelines and follow designated routes
- Comply with all traffic laws and workplace safety regulations
- Assist with loading and unloading and material handling as required
- Maintain the cleanliness and security of assigned vehicles
- Complete driver logs and incident reports accurately
- Immediately report any mechanical issues or accidents
The role reports to the Operations Manager and Supervisor.
