Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro has issued a public advisory regarding water flow changes at the Menihek Dam in Newfoundland and Labrador.
What is Happening
Through the normal operation of the Menihek Generating Facility, there is an increase in water flow downstream of the dam. With warmer temperatures, melting snow, and increased water levels typical of this time of year, Hydro has begun releasing water from the reservoir.
This is a controlled release of water to help manage water levels at the facility and is expected to continue until the end of June.
Safety Advisory
Members of the public are advised to use caution when in the vicinity of the Menihek Dam and connected waterways. Water levels and flows may be higher than normal and may be unpredictable.
Residents, cabin owners, and travelers in the area should be aware of these conditions when planning activities near the dam or in affected waterways.
