Naskapi community members have an excellent opportunity to start a career in the mining industry with paid training.

Tata Steel Minerals Canada is offering a 3-month paid Heavy Equipment Operator training program starting in May 2026. This program is open to members of the Naskapi Nation of Kawawachikamach, Nation Innu Matimekush-Lac John, Innu Takuaikan Uashat Man-Utenam, and Innu Nation of Labrador.

What You’ll Learn: 

  • Safe operation of heavy equipment
  • Pre-use inspections and cargo loading
  • Mining orientation, WHMIS, and environmental awareness
  • Safe driving practices with experienced mentors

Requirements: 

  • Class 5 driver’s license with driving experience
  • Must be a registered member of one of the four First Nation communities
  • Previous heavy equipment experience is an asset

Employment Details: 

💰 $30.49/hour
📅 2 weeks on/2 weeks off (12-hour shifts)
✈️ Local residents or Fly-In/Fly-Out arrangement available
