Our Elders deserve good food, made well and made with care. The Naskapi Nation is looking for a Caterer for the Jakoush Elder’s Day Center, to cook and serve nutritious lunches three days a week.

About the role

As the caterer, you would design, prepare, and serve nutritious and delicious meals for the Elders at our day center. This work matters more than it might sound: good meals directly support our Elders’ quality of life and their ability to keep living in their own homes.

  • Employment type: Contract, three days per week, for lunch
  • Schedule: Primarily daytime, Tuesday to Thursday
  • Volume: 12 meals per day
  • Rate: To be determined

What you would do

Meal preparation. Cook complete meals, soup or appetizer, main course, and dessert, following healthy eating principles.

Menu adaptation. Prepare meals adapted to chewing and swallowing abilities, including modified textures, minced meals, and purees.

Dietary management. Watch for specific nutritional needs, such as low-sodium and diabetic diets.

Food safety. Follow HACCP standards and hygiene regulations closely.

What we are looking for

  • Ability to cook both everyday food and traditional food for our Elders
  • A culinary diploma or experience is an asset
  • Knowledge of Naskapi cultural and community realities
  • Reliable and punctual. This one matters a great deal
  • Ability to work with respect
  • Respect for confidentiality, professional ethics, and cultural protocols
  • Spoken Naskapi is an asset
  • Good knowledge of English, French an asset
  • A passion for serving seniors
