
The Naskapi Nation of Kawawachikamach is seeking a dedicated and community-oriented individual to join our team as a Mining Liaison Officer. This is a full-time position (5 days per week) starting in June 2025, with a variable schedule to be discussed upon hiring. The role includes a six-month probation period and will follow the NNK salary scale.
🪨 About the Position
The Mining Liaison Officer will work closely with the Director General and the Economic Development portfolio holder on Council to maintain relationships with mining companies and organizations. This position is a vital link between the Naskapi Nation, the community, and the mining industry. The successful candidate will help implement Impact and Benefit Agreements, represent the Nation on various committees, and share critical information with community members.

💼 Key Responsibilities Include:
- Liaising with mining companies operating in Naskapi territory
- Maintaining a registry of mining projects and activities
- Attending meetings, site visits, and consultation sessions
- Participating in committees and reporting to Council
- Supporting community understanding of mining-related concerns
- Collaborating with the Environment Officer and other advisors
- Addressing community questions and complaints regarding mining
📋 Qualifications:
- Strong communication, reading, and writing skills (Fluency in Naskapi and English required; French is an asset)
- Experience or interest in mining (exploration, operations, etc.)
- Knowledge of community-level mining issues (employment, environmental impacts, etc.)
- Strong computer skills (mapping software knowledge an asset)
- Willingness to travel to surrounding mines (10–15 times/year)
- Access to a vehicle
- High school diploma (college education considered an asset)
- Minimum age: 18 years
