About the role
Finding better ways to provide the materials the world needs. We are looking for a Principal Advisor Indigenous Leadership to join the Global Indigenous Relations team. You will work closely with site-based Communities and Human Resources teams to guide Indigenous Relations and Communities and Social Performance practice by providing technical advice and supporting capability development to deliver on the Indigenous Relations strategy.
This is a great opportunity for an Indigenous Relations expert to support the establishment and execution of Indigenous Relations initiatives in support of the Rio Tinto businesses across the region, with the objective of continually improving our social performance and benefit to Indigenous employees and host communities.
Reporting to the Global Chief Advisor Indigenous Relations you will:
• Develop and execute a strategic plan to attract Indigenous employees, including branding, positioning and a clear Indigenous Employee Value Proposition (IEVP).
• Establish key external partnerships to support the Attraction program’s deliverables and collaborate internally to leverage existing partnerships for an Indigenous leadership focus.
• Sourcing and engaging with qualified candidates to connect to current open roles as well as transferable pathways and proactive placements.
• Maintaining positive relationships with senior leaders, Talent Acquisition Partners, and Human Resources Business Partners to understand and anticipate emerging talent needs and identify opportunities, including talent moves for employees.
• Researching, analysing, and utilising external market data, sourcing methods, trending, benchmarking, and best practice to develop and flex resourcing strategies.
• Work with Indigenous representatives and communities, other stakeholders and our key partners to proactively identify and support Indigenous candidates.
• Build talent pipelines for Indigenous professional and leadership candidates including internal talent pool, candidate referrals, employment placements, ongoing employment status and development opportunities e.g. Top 20 external candidates.
• Develop cultural onboarding program to support leaders in providing a culturally inclusive experience for Indigenous employees.
• Deliver relevant programs to drive retention across the regions that complement existing offerings to retain and develop Indigenous leaders and employees.
• Coach leaders to ensure existing internal systems and initiatives reflect the needs to support Indigenous leadership growth within our business.
What you’ll bring
• A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
• Have a deep understanding and connection to Indigenous culture.
• A background in recruitment, and/or talent management, including experience in developing sourcing strategies for professional and manager-level candidates.
• Solid knowledge of sourcing techniques on social media and professional platforms and talent acquisitor software and networks.
• Significant experience in understanding of HR policies, programs and the application.
• Experience in engaging and evaluating external vendors.
• Comfortable with data-based decisions and using data to shape a story.
• Driven and strategic thinker with an ability to influence senior leaders and key partners to enact change across a networked organization.
