As part of Naskapi Culture Week, the Naskapi Nation of Kawawachikamach is proud to host the Little Elders Day Costume Contest, a special event that celebrates our Elders by honoring their teachings, styles, and spirit through our youngest community members.

Little Elders Day is a joyful opportunity for children to dress in outfits inspired by Naskapi culture, traditional clothing, and the Elders who guide and support our community. It is a moment to recognize how culture is passed down from generation to generation, and how even our youngest children play an important role in keeping traditions alive.

The Costume Contest will take place on January 31 at 3:00 PM as part of the week’s cultural activities. Families are invited to attend, participate, and cheer on the children as they proudly show their outfits.

Prizes will be awarded as follows:

  • 1st Place; $300
  • 2nd Place; $200
  • 3rd Place; $100
  • 4th Place; $75

In addition to prize winners, every child will receive friendly recognition for participating, because this celebration is about inclusion, pride, and encouragement.

We invite parents, caregivers, and community members to join us in celebrating Little Elders Day and Naskapi Culture Week. Events like this remind us that our language, stories, and traditions live on through our children.

We look forward to seeing everyone there.
