Today marked a special moment in the Empowering Our Men Gathering. After several days of intense and meaningful sessions led by the Indigenous Men’s Alliance, the men of our community came together for an awards ceremony to celebrate their growth and commitment.

Throughout the gathering, workshops focused on the roles of fatherhood, being a provider, protector, leader, and role model. The men engaged deeply, opening up with honesty and strength. This journey has been about healing, learning, and supporting one another—and today’s recognition was a powerful step forward.

During the ceremony, participants were awarded certificates of completion, honoring their dedication to this important work. We are so grateful to the Indigenous Men’s Alliance for guiding the process and creating a safe, supportive environment for men to grow together.

A deeply moving moment came when Cheyenne was recognized for her dedication and testimony. She shared heartfelt words about why this work matters—not just for men, but for the entire community. Her message was clear: improving the lives of women is connected to uplifting and strengthening our men. Through her ongoing efforts at the Women’s Shelter, Cheyenne reminded everyone that real change comes from working together with compassion and respect.

As the gathering continues, the weekend will bring more bonding and teambuilding, including a community fishing event and time spent on the land. We look forward to seeing these lessons carried forward into everyday life, strengthening families, and shaping a brighter future for Kawawachikamach.
