The Department of Public Works at the Naskapi Nation of Kawawachikamach is seeking a skilled and safety-minded individual to join our team as a Haul Truck Driver. This seasonal, full-time role plays an essential part in maintaining vital infrastructure for our community and surrounding region.

Position Overview
As a Haul Truck Driver, you will be responsible for safely operating heavy equipment to support road maintenance and infrastructure projects. Your work will directly contribute to the safety and accessibility of our roads and facilities.

Job Details

  • Location: Kawawachikamach and region
  • Schedule: 40 hours per week with potential for overtime
  • Salary: Based on the DPW Salary Scale
  • Duration: Seasonal, full-time

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate haul trucks and other vehicles as assigned
  • Safely transport materials to designated sites
  • Perform routine inspections and report mechanical issues
  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness and storage
  • Complete inspection checklists and daily logs
  • Follow workplace safety and traffic laws
  • Report any incidents or near-misses immediately

Qualifications

  • Valid Heavy Equipment Operator certification
  • Valid CSST (ASP) Health and Safety card
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • At least 1 year of experience in construction, municipal work, or road maintenance
  • Strong knowledge of safety procedures and equipment inspections
  • Experience operating in challenging outdoor conditions

Languages

  • Proficiency in English and Naskapi
  • French is considered an asset
