The image shows a large, blue and gray metal building labeled "Shinasheshtooan Memorial Arena" on the side. A single blue vehicle is parked near the front entrance, which has orange accents. The building sits in an open area with a dirt parking lot, surrounded by rugged terrain and a dense forest of evergreen trees in the background. The overall setting suggests a remote location. The logo of the Naskapi Nation of Kawawachikamach is visible in the lower right corner.

We are sorry to inform the community that the Nomads Restaurant at the Shinapest Tooma Memorial Arena in Kawawachikamach will permanently close on October 1, 2024.

The restaurant was established to serve food to the community while generating profits that could be reinvested in the community.

Unfortunately, after over five years of operations, the restaurant could never attain that objective and was subsidized by the Naskapi Nation of Kawawachikamach instead.

The Nation is currently exploring solutions allowing the space to be used as soon as possible under a new model that will encourage our local economy.

They will share the details once the newly elected chief and council discuss them.

In the meantime, please feel free to share your ideas and suggestions with our Economic Development Officer, Jimmy Shecanapish , at jshecanapish@naskapi.ca.

We want to thank everyone involved in the project, from staff to customers. Your efforts did not go unnoticed, and many of us will keep fond memories of our time at the Nomads Restaurant.

Respectfully yours,

Naskapi Nation of Kawawachikamach Management Team
