Requirements
Education and certification
- A bachelor’s degree is required for this position, but relevant diplomas will also be considered.
- Trade certification for heavy equipment operator is compulsory in Quebec.
- Qualified persons of First Nations Ancestry will be given preference in accordance with s.16(1) of the Canadian Human Rights Act.
Experience
- a certificate of general health and safety on construction sites (ASP);
- a valid driver’s license;
- knowledge on municipal infrastructure standards in Quebec (an asset);
- relevant experience in a similar position (an asset).
Languages
- Fluency in English and Naskapi;
- Written knowledge of English;
- Basic knowledge of spoken French;
- Knowledge of written French will be considered an asset.

Job Description
Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, and working in close collaboration with the Nation’s Partners, Subcontractors and other Nation employees. The Site Supervisor (“SS”) monitors the progress of construction projects and ensure compliance with construction safety regulations. To supervise operators, educate workers on site safety practices, and evaluate employee performance. You represent the Nation to clients, coordinate all stakeholders, and ensure the optimization of the budget, schedule, and quality of service from the initiation to the completion of the projects.
Essential Job Functions:
- Evaluate and report on project activities with a view to improving those activities if/when they are implemented again;
- Establish and adhere to schedules, ensuring project progress;
- Conduct site visits and supervise the work of the operators and subcontractors;
- Analyze plans and specifications, making recommendations to optimize processes and resources;
- Supervise the work according to the plans, specifications and standards in force for any type of urban engineering project (sewer, aqueduct, road, etc.);
- Raise any disparity between the plans and the particular conditions of the ground which could be detected during construction;
- Daily reports;
- Ensure site coordination with other disciplines;
- Provide technical support to the team of project managers;
- Participate in site meetings;
- Monitor ongoing projects managing unforeseen issues and contractual extras;
- Manage conflicts and propose solutions in the best interest of all parties;
- Supervising and collaborating with various contributors to the Special Project;
- Other tasks that may from time to time be assigned to by the Director-General and/ or Council as the case may be.
