All Naskapi community members are invited to a consultation meeting to help inform the Nation’s decision on whether to support two proposed private vacationing development areas in the Naskapi Area of Primary Interest.

What is a private vacation lot? A parcel of public land of 4,000 square meters made available for lease to individuals for constructing and occupying a cottage or cabin for personal, non-commercial, recreational use. This typically includes cottages and cabins (seasonal residences) or small hunting and fishing camps near lakes of 20 hectares or more.

Why is this consultation happening? The Government of Quebec is reviewing its Regional Plan for Public Land Development, specifically the Recreational Tourism Section for the Côte-Nord region. If the Nation supports this development, it must decide which lakes should be preserved and which lakes could be developed through private vacationing leases.

When: March 17, 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Where: Naskapi Community Center (dinner included) Who: Elders, youth, adults. Everyone’s voice matters as it may affect everyone living in Kawawachikamach, Matimekush-Lac-John and Schefferville.
