Statistics Canada has begun early recruitment for the 2026 Census, and Kawawachikamach is officially included in the list of northern and remote communities where hiring is happening now. This early round of hiring ensures that Census work can begin in January 2026, when travel is easier and before many families leave the region for spring activities.
The goal is simple: Statistics Canada wants to hire as many local workers as possible. Community knowledge is essential for accurate Census collection, and these roles are designed for people who live right here in Kawawachikamach.
Available Positions and Pay
Statistics Canada is hiring for two main roles:
Enumerators
• Pay: $35.79 per hour
• Hours: Availability for 20 to 40 hours per week
• Work: Door to door, evenings and weekends
• Responsibilities: Collect completed Census questionnaires and follow up with households that have not yet responded
Crew Leaders
• Pay: $37.79 per hour
• Hours: 40 hours per week, including days, evenings, and weekends
• Responsibilities: Supervise a team of enumerators, coordinate collection work, train staff, and support operations
Both positions also receive authorized expenses such as mileage and parking.
Employment Timeline
Work in northern and remote communities will take place between January and March 2026 for enumerators, and January through April 2026 for crew leaders.
What the Job Requires
People hired for Census work will conduct in person visits to homes across Kawawachikamach. Households are legally required to complete their Census questionnaire, and staff will be trained to support that process.
You do not need to be bilingual, and you can still apply even if you have periods where you are unavailable. You must be at least the age of majority in Quebec, be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident or hold a valid work permit, and reside in Canada.

Security Requirements
All Census employees must complete a reliability status security screening, which includes:
