Right now, our region is at high risk for forest fires.
Spring conditions—especially the dry brush and high-speed winds—mean that it takes very little for a fire to ignite and spread. In response, an open fire ban has been issued by the Quebec Ministry of Public Security, in collaboration with SOPFEU, and it applies to the northern part of the Côte-Nord region, including Kawawachikamach.
We want to keep everyone safe and protect our land. Please do not burn anything outdoors. Even small fires can quickly grow out of control under current conditions.
SOPFEU has suspended industrial burning permits and recommends municipalities also restrict domestic burning. Forestry operations are being limited as well.
