
The Université de Montréal, UQAM, and UQAT are proud to offer an immersive, credit-bearing course in Kawawachikamach, home of the Naskapi Nation, from August 15 to 21, 2025 (tentative dates, subject to the Tshiuetin Rail schedule).
This intensive field course (AUT3002 – Stage Collectif) offers students a unique opportunity to engage deeply with Indigenous realities. Hosted in the heart of Naskapi territory, participants will explore themes such as:
- Territorial claims and land use
- Governmental autonomy
- History of colonization and assimilation
- Indigenous cosmologies and spirituality
- Justice and healing strategies
- Community intervention and allyship
The experience emphasizes cross-cultural understanding, knowledge exchange, and respectful communication, with on-site interpretation ensuring accessibility in French.
Who Can Apply?
Students from the three partner institutions—Université de Montréal (UdeM), Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), and Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue (UQAT)—are invited to apply. The course is contingent on 21 students total. A minimum of 3 to 6 credits in Indigenous studies (or relevant experience) is required, depending on your institution.

Logistics
Travel from Sept-Îles to Schefferville will be covered for UdeM students. Participants should expect to leave Sept-Îles on August 14 and return August 22. Carpooling will be organized for travel to and from Sept-Îles.

Most community interactions will take place in English and/or Naskapi.
