
The Chief, Council, and entire Naskapi Nation of Kawawachikamach would like to extend our sincere congratulations to Chief Jonathan (Bégin) Shetush on his recent election as Chief of Uashat mak Mani-Utenam.
The official results were announced on May 26, 2025, under the supervision of election president Me Alexis Wawanoanoth. A total of 1,836 ballots were cast for the position of Chief, with a strong show of participation from community members. Chief Shetush now begins this important role with a clear mandate from his people and the support of the community.

We are especially pleased to note the strong representation of women on council. As Me Alexis Wawanoanoth said during the announcement of the results:
“I want to highlight that, at the end of this democratic process, four of the six council seats will now be held by women.”
