The Naskapi Nation of Kawawachikamach is seeking a committed and compassionate individual to fill the role of Men’s Shelter Coordinator. Based in Schefferville, this vital position supports men and their children who are navigating personal challenges by offering a secure, welcoming, and supportive environment.

This is a contract position beginning in June 2025 and continuing until March 31, 2026, with the possibility of renewal. Salary will be commensurate with experience and education.

What You’ll Do

As the Men’s Shelter Coordinator, you’ll be instrumental in shaping and delivering programming that strengthens family bonds, promotes well-being, and helps community members access critical resources. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and leading prevention, awareness, and intervention activities
  • Conducting intake and assessment interviews
  • Offering crisis support and follow-up care
  • Connecting clients to appropriate community resources
  • Supporting men and their children throughout their healing journeys
  • Maintaining documentation and reporting statistics
  • Managing shelter staff and collaborating with social workers
  • Participating in meetings and supporting community initiatives
  • Being available for occasional on-call duties

Who We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent (in progress is acceptable)
  • Experience or studies in social work, mental health, or related fields
  • A positive, empathetic, and non-judgmental approach
  • Strong crisis intervention and communication skills
  • Fluency in English; proficiency in Naskapi is required
  • At least one year of sobriety, if previously applicable
  • A commitment to discretion, trust, and team collaboration
