The Naskapi Nation of Kawawachikamach has spoken! From November 18–21, 2024, a referendum was held to seek approval for By-Law No. 570, authorizing a long-term loan of up to $1,085,202 to fund the construction of a duplex to accommodate members of the Naskapi Police Force.

We are pleased to announce that the referendum has passed with overwhelming support from the community.

The Results

  • Total Electors: 190
  • Votes in Favor ✅: 164
  • Votes Against ❌: 24

The referendum not only surpassed the required minimum participation rate of 25% but also secured a strong majority of votes in favor of the project.

What’s Next?

This approval marks an important milestone for our community as we move forward with plans to provide housing for members of our Police Force. This project will strengthen the foundation of safety and security for the Naskapi Nation and ensure our police officers have the resources they need to serve the community effectively.
