REQUIREMENTS
The successful candidate must:
- Have experience in helping and supporting others by integrating emotional, mental, and physical health;
- Have experience in telephone and in-person counseling;
- Demonstrate the ability to work independently and be an influential team member;
- Able to deal effectively with conflict and crisis;
- Able and willing to work demanding and changing schedules (e.g., Night, day, and evening)
- Have experience working with men;
- Have been living and practicing a healthy lifestyle and be willing to undergo mandatory police checks;
** First Aid Training will be considered an asset. However, it will be offered for application or renewal.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This individual will receive direct support and guidance and work closely with the Naskapi Men’s Shelter Coordinator. The hired support worker will also participate in training to properly support the men at the shelter.
Specifically, they will undergo on-the-job training and will be responsible for the following:
- Act as an intake worker, including registering new clients according to established procedures;
- Maintains and supervises established routines and procedures;
- Upholds high ethical standards and exercises good judgment and discretion with confidential information, including respecting the confidentiality of clients;
- Offers culturally sensitive tools that the client can use to come to terms with their problems and methods on how to provide healthy emotional stability in their lives and their families;
- Provides land-based healing workshops to promote the well-being of men within the community and his family unit;
- Assists residents to establish and achieve individualized goals;
- Provides encouragement, support, and problem-solving and advocates on behalf of the client;
- Learns, understands, and complies with health and safety standards, regulations, policies, and procedures;
- Responds to emergencies and crisis interventions;
- Completes all necessary documentation, including written records/reports, and provides statistics as requested;
