Six people stand together in the Naskapi Nation council room, in front of a painting of caribou and a row of tall windows. From left to right: Innu Director General Gilbert Dominique, Innu Councillor Donavan Ambroise, Innu Chief Paco Vachon, Naskapi Deputy Chief Nathan Uniam, Naskapi Councillor Ronald Tooma, and Naskapi Councillor Louise Mameanskum. Chief Vachon and Deputy Chief Uniam give a thumbs up. A large wooden council table with carved designs is in the foreground.

The Naskapi Nation welcomed the Innu Council of Matimekush-Lac John to our band council office this week for a very productive meeting.

Chief Paco Vachon came with Councillor Donavan Ambroise and Director General Gilbert Dominique. Deputy Chief Nathan Uniam, Councillor Ronald Tooma, and Councillor Louise Mameanskum met with them for the Naskapi Nation.

Around the council table, the two councils talked about mining, energy, and economic development projects in the region. They also talked about the caribou and the environment, which matter deeply to both of our communities.

This was the second time our councils have met in recent months. Meetings like this are important to us, and we look forward to keeping the conversation going.
