Tata Steel Minerals Canada is currently seeking a Plant Helper to join their team at the mine site near Schefferville, Quebec.
About the Position
This role offers a 2 weeks on/2 weeks off schedule with 12-hour shifts. The mine operates 24/7 throughout the year, providing stable employment in the mining sector.
Plant Helpers work in small, safety-focused teams, assisting in the efficient day-to-day operation of the Process Plant while actively working to identify opportunities for improvement.
Major Responsibilities
The Plant Helper role includes a variety of duties supporting mine operations:
- Assist plant operators with daily production activities, including monitoring material flow and clearing blockages
- Perform general housekeeping duties such as shoveling, hosing down equipment, and removing debris from plant components
- Load, unload, and move materials using hand tools or basic equipment as directed
- Support maintenance teams by providing tools, preparing work areas, and helping with minor repairs
- Inspect work areas for hazards and report unsafe conditions immediately
- Follow all site safety procedures, including the use of respirators and other PPE requirements, lockout/tagout assistance, and hazard reporting
- Assist with stockpile management and material sampling when needed
- Operate basic equipment (water hoses, compactors, small loaders) if trained and authorized
- Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and required training
- Pick up and delivery of identified equipment with a vehicle
- Additional duties as requested by the supervisor
Working Conditions
This position requires working in a fast-paced environment, handling heavy loads, and being physically demanding. The role requires attention to detail and hand-eye coordination, with a combination of sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, and kneeling.
Qualifications
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license or higher (provincial or territorial)
- Previous experience in mining, construction, or industrial environments is an advantage but not required
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing, standing for long periods, and working in outdoor conditions
- Basic understanding of hand tools and mechanical concepts
- Willingness to learn and follow strict safety protocols
- Willingness to work day and night shifts

- Ability to effectively communicate in both English and French would be an asset
- Qualifications to operate small equipment will be considered an asset
