We are so proud.

Team Naskapi will be representing Kawawachikmach at the 32nd Annual Quebec Aboriginal Firefighters Competition that will be held in Mi’gmaq Nation of Listuguj, QC, on July 29, 2023.

Once again, Team Naskapi will be the only team consisting entirely of women who will participate in the competition to be the First Nation women to compete in an all-male-dominated event.

They are not just competing; they are role models to their community and firefighting across the country as firefighters.

The Quebec Aboriginal Firefighter Competition is an exciting competitive event in which firefighters simulate the physical demands of real-life firefighting by completing an “obstacle course” consisting of five tasks.

Included are donning of bunker gear, donning and doffing of air packs (SCBA), hose rolling, hose and nozzle connecting, and discharging fire stream as they race against other teams and the clock. The regional winner will represent Quebec at the National Firefighters Competition in Kahnawake, QC.

The event is scheduled for September 16, 2023.
