The Naskapi Nation of Kawawachikamach is seeking a motivated and community-minded individual to join our team as a Local Business and Economic Development Officer. This is a permanent, full-time position beginning in January 2026, based at the Nation Office in Kawawachikamach.

The Officer will work closely with the Economic Development Department to encourage and promote entrepreneurship, assist local businesses, and develop new opportunities to strengthen the economic wellbeing of Naskapi beneficiaries. The position also manages the Community Economic Development Organization (CEDO) and represents the Nation at the First Nation Quebec Labrador Economic Development Commission (FNQLEDC).

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting and advising local entrepreneurs and businesses
  • Organizing CEDO meetings, tracking budgets, and promoting local funds
  • Researching and developing new economic opportunities
  • Coordinating with local industries, particularly in the mining sector
  • Building strong networks with government and regional organizations
  • Managing the Naskapi Business Registry
  • Hosting trainings, workshops, and community consultations

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of Secondary V education (post-secondary studies in Business, Economics, Public Administration, or related fields preferred)
  • Experience in business or economic developmentadministration, and working in First Nation communities
  • Fluency in English (knowledge of Naskapi and French is an asset)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, organization, and initiative
